Naperville, IL –September 15, 2026: Moran Technology Consulting, Inc. (Moran), a leading higher education management and technology consulting firm, today announced that founder Charlie Moran will transition from his role as Chief Executive Officer at the end of 2026 to become Chair of the Board as he continues to work with clients. Scott Weyandt, currently Vice President of Digital Identity and Security, will succeed him as CEO. Eric Hoffman, currently Vice President of Management Consulting, will become Chief Operating Officer.
Charlie and Paul Giebel (who recently retired) founded Moran 22 years ago, leading the firm through more than 1,000 projects and almost 400 institutional partnerships across the US, Canada, and beyond. As Chair, Charlie will continue to guide the firm’s strategic direction while doing the work he has loved for nearly fifty years: advising colleges and universities on IT strategy and ERP readiness, planning, and platform selection.
“This is a transition, not a departure,” said Charlie. “After 22 years, the firm is stronger than it has ever been, and that is because of the people in it. Scott and Eric have been building the next chapter of Moran alongside me for years. I’m not going anywhere — I’ll be Chair of the Board, and I’ll still be in the room with institutional leaders working on the problems I care most about. What changes is who carries the day-to-day administrative load, and I couldn’t be handing it to a better pair.”
“Charlie and Paul built something extremely rare — an independent, employee-owned firm that higher education leaders actually trust,” said Scott Weyandt. “My job is to protect that and to grow it. In the near term, very little changes for our clients or our people: the same trusted advisors and the same high standard of work. Where we will invest is in our capacity to support the institutions who rely on us — deepening our bench, sharpening how we go to market, and continuing to build a culture people want to spend their careers in. Having Charlie as Chair while he continues to work with clients means we get to do that without missing a step.”
“Our clients care about one thing above all: that we deliver what we promised,” said Eric Hoffman. “As COO, I’ll have closer, more direct accountability for delivery and for how we bring our work to institutions. Over time, that means moving toward more common delivery and sales practices across our practice areas, so the full weight of the firm is behind every engagement. And with almost 50 years in the higher ed space and more than two decades leading Moran, I’m especially glad that Charlie will continue to guide us through this next phase of growth as Chair as we continue to expand and enhance the value we provide to clients.”
